Thou shalt honour thy Father
And Thy Mother, that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the
earth. Tekla didn't follow this 4th Commandment. Her father, the governor of
Ikonium (Konya
in Anatolia), sentenced her to death for her Christian
attitude. She is said to convert by St. Paul himself. Every
attempt to accomplish the sentence failed. Eventually
she escaped, and is supposed to be the first nun.
Stories like that produce
saints. From saints grow monasteries, churches and
relics. Possibly holy, healing water, full of placebo. The grotto wall is
dripping. The water is supposed to heal flatulence. I guess 16 bishops can
confirm that the fart of St. Hekla was like perfume. |
